The 54-year-old, who is retired alongside his 63-year-old wife Helen, is a lifelong fan of singer Maggie May – so much so that their marriage revolved around him.

Kevin said: “We got married in Vegas in 2014 and our wedding night was watching Rod perform live at Caesars Palace with 40 other fans. They came with us from the UK.

“We got married in the chapel at the Treasure Island hotel thanks to Rod Stewart lookalike Vic Vega. He sang a few songs during the ceremony. I actually invited the real Rod to the wedding, but he didn’t didn’t come in. It was still a brilliant day, though.

“I think he saw us in the crowd at the concert at Caesars Palace because I was wearing a bright green wedding suit and tried to get on stage with him. I couldn’t.

“Helen and I have met Rod many times over the years. We are members of a Rod Stewart fan club and got together at a club event. The club’s charity auction Fans get together on big weekends and Rod’s sister Mary arrives, apparently going through her brother’s wardrobe and picking out some stuff to auction off for a good cause.

“I bought Rod’s cotton Burberry shirt before the lockdown in 2019.

“I’ve worn it about four times – only on special occasions. I’m only parting with it now because I have three Rod shirts, including one that Helen bid on at a fan auction clubs in March.

“The last one is signed by Rod and it’s covered in playing cards that remind us of our wedding in Vegas. I guess it’s a romantic buy. I don’t really need three shirts, so I decided to I’m parting with it. It’s been great fun and we’ve made lots of friends through the fan club. I can’t say why I love Rod Stewart so much. My dad was a huge fan. Everything you heard in the home when I was growing up was The Faces, his old band.”

Claire Howell, music consultant at Hansons Auctioneers, said: “That’s why musical memories are so important to people. They tap into fond memories and nostalgia. Rod Stewart played a major role in the life of Kevin and Helen. He helped them meet, inspired their wedding plans and allowed them to make new friends through the fan club.

“The shirt itself is a fine quality item, as you would expect from a mega-star.”
