Debevoise to add SEC veteran Kristin Snyder as white-collar partner in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Debevoise & Plimpton LLP today announced that Kristin Snyder will join the firm’s San Francisco office as a partner in the White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group effective March 14. Ms. Snyder, who most recently served as Deputy Director of the Examinations Division at the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), will focus on issues of securities regulation and enforcement, particularly for private investment companies and other asset managers.

The addition of Ms. Snyder will further strengthen the Group’s ability to advise clients in navigating a more aggressive regulatory stance by the SEC, particularly towards large financial institutions and asset managers. Ms. Snyder will join the distinguished roster of former senior federal prosecutors, SEC attorneys and regulators, which in San Francisco already includes David Sarratt, former federal prosecutor and co-associate director of the office, and Julie Riewe, former co-Chief from the Asset Management Unit of the SEC’s Law Enforcement Division, which spends time in offices in San Francisco and Washington, DC.

With a distinguished 18-year career at the SEC, Ms. Snyder brings to the firm extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of financial regulation. Prior to joining Debevoise, Ms. Snyder also served as Associate Country Co-Director of its Investment Adviser/Investment Firm (IAIC) Examination Program and Associate Regional Director for Examinations at the SEC Regional Office in San Francisco. In these roles and her role as Deputy Director, she oversaw more than 1,000 employees of the Examinations Division, led the SEC’s Private Funds Unit, a specialized group within the Examinations Program that conducted hundreds reviews of many of the largest and most complex private fund managers in the world and managed referrals of review results from the Reviews Division to the Execution Division. She also led the SEC’s National Review Program Office for the IAIC review program, which develops priorities and initiatives spanning investment advisers, including private money managers, and investment firms. .

Prior to joining the Examinations Division in 2011, Ms. Snyder worked for eight years in the Enforcement Division as a branch manager and senior counsel in the SEC office in San Francisco, and was a partner in litigation at two large law firms before that. Ms. Snyder received her JD with honors from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1996 and her BA in sociology from the University of California, Davis in 1992.
