What we saw in Ohio State Football’s cold and rainy Rose Bowl practice on Wednesday

CARSON, Calif. — Ohio State football weathered a rainy afternoon of practice at Dignity Health Sports Park near Los Angeles on Wednesday — the last viewing window open to reporters before the Rose Bowl in Sunday against Utah.

All the same players visible in Tuesday’s training have been taken into account. Defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste seemed limited to jogging on the sidelines with an athletic trainer. The same four players notably absent Tuesday — cornerback Sevyn Banks, defensive tackle Antwuan Jackson, linebacker Cody Simon and safety Marcus Williamson — were absent again Wednesday.

Cade Stover, seen working with the linebackers on Tuesday, was lined up next to Steele Chambers and Tommy Eichenberg as third linebacker during a visible drill during the 15-minute window. Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Stover, who moved from tight end to linebacker ahead of the 2020 season, is exclusively playing linebacker this week due to the Buckeyes’ lack of numbers there.
